All IT Enthusiasts are invited to join...




Xavier University- Ateneo Information Management Society (XU-AIMS) and the Xavier Enthusiasts’ League (XCEL) of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan will be holding its first Mindanao-Wide Quantum and Information Technology Convention (QITC) from January 25-27, 2008 at the Country Village Hotel, Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City. The theme of the said event is “Networking Mindanao IT Enthusiasts to Propel the Sphere of Global Advancement.”

All IT enthusiasts from all schools/universities in Mindanao are all invited to join the said event. There will be experienced and competent speakers from International Open Source Network ASEAN+3 Sub-Regional Node, Orange and Bronze Software Labs, BetterTelCo (Australia), and Google Inc., who will give talks on topics like Open Source, Java Management Extensions, Google Applications, Trends of Web Technologies.

There will also be a programming competition where three(3) representatives from each college that will compete for the PhP10,000 cash prize. This will also be a great chance for all the participating schools to showcase skills in programming.

The participation on this event will cost each partaker, an amount of PhP1,750 for students and PhP2,000 for professionals. This will cover the costs of hotel accommodation (3 days and 2 nights), food (5 meals and 3 snacks), convention kit, and other miscellaneous expenses.

The QITC is said to be a great opportunity for IT enthusiasts from different places in Mindanao to gather and interact with one another and together listen to and participate in the fun and informative activities prepared by the organizers in this event.


What is Quantum?

Quantum is a tradition of Xavier Computer Enthusiasts’ League (XCEL) of Xavier University since 1994. It is a pure competition participated by different schools in Mindanao. Its main objectives are to test the level of knowledge and literacy of high school students on Computer and Information Technology and to develop a science and technology culture among the youth.

Quantum is composed of 3 segments. First are the MS Paint and the GIMP Competition which will be participated by one grade school and one high school student as a representative of each school. Second is the Quiz Show which is exclusive for high school students consisting of three bona fide students of each school and the last one is the Programming Competition which will be consisted of three bona fide college students equipped with programming skills.

The IT Convention?

The City-Wide IT Convention of the Ateneo Information Management Society (AIMS) started in the year 2002 and will commemorate its 5th year of gathering the IT students of Cagayan de Oro City not just to test their competence but to guide them with additional knowledge and to develop their skills in Information Technology.

This is usually a 2-day and 1-night activity which comprising sessions and discussions on IT related topics with distinguished resource speakers. A fellowship or social night was usually held in the evening with delightful performances from the delegates. In the following day, a short quiz bee and receipt of certificates wrap up the convention.
